Artist Statement
I am a painter that seeks to develop works that transmit a sense of truth. At this time I am looking to capture a glimpse of time and place that I experience. Currently the landscape in the United States is changing with the development of large spaces. For this reason I have tried to capture the rural areas before their change. Another venue that intrigues me is subjects that are overlooked as an entryway or spent cornstalks.
Most paintings are started on location whether it is outside or an interior. Besides a sketch I will journal about what drew me to this subject and how I will approach this work. The initial lay in of color and strokes does take place on site but will be completed in the studio.
Currently my style is painterly with visible stokes, a variety of surfaces and color relationships.
